Website Direction

My blog is currently hosted on my personal-brand website, which is used to showcase work for my major, Visual Communication Design. While I love design and animation, I also love writing, and even do screenwriting on the side. I feel it is really important to showcase these passions of mine, especially if I want to go into the animation and kids’ entertainment fields.

As part of my major, I am currently branding myself to show off my persona, and the website will soon be designed with a new theme.  The color scheme will use different shades of purple to showcase a hierarchy and a grid. I chose purple due to it’s common color psychology with emotions of relaxation and happiness, along with representing of royalty. I plan to remove all the pages and have two simple pages: a homepage and a writer’s blog. Since my blog will not be nested far under all the pages, it will feel more personal and seem as a showcase. I love to screen write, and want to incorporate a writings page with all of these.

A lot of my inspiration comes from the article, “Author Websites that Get it Right.” A few of the websites featured in the article inspired me to change my layout and help give me suggestions for branding my writer’s blog. The Judy Moody website is an extension of the author’s novel and gives off a child-like playfulness. The website is evident to the author’s brand, which is helps with the tone and theme of the author’s books. I’m hoping that the rebranding and redesign of my website will give a personal touch and understanding of who I am. The article also featured many common suggestions to design principles – such as do not be afraid of white space.
