Words About Me

The word cloud represents the words used to describe my writing. Each classmate gave me three words about myself, and I placed them in a word cloud to see what words seemed to be repetitive to me. My characters seem to stand out the most. What do you take that to mean?

My creative writing class has always been a ball of energy; moving rapidly with vibrant personalities churning. When my professor told me to come up with three words for each student, I was appalled, and a little unsure what to say. It took me a minute to come up with perfect adjectives for their writing.

I think what surprised me even more was the words that I received myself. It didn’t surprise me that characters were mentioned numerous times – my stories having “characterization” or being “character driven” for I have always loved character development. As a kid, I’d write descriptions of characters instead of stories. What did surprise me? Words like intoxicating or powerful, as well as “t-swizzle esque.” (Another humorous fun fact- I used to write fanfictions while listening to Taylor Swift, so I can see the inspiration there.)

I did a quick search of contests using the words found and was surprised to see a few that interested me. There were quite a few “Taylor Swift” inspired contests, some which were old, but the amount blew me out of the water. I also found quite a few literary journals that seemed promising, and I became very excited by the prospect of submitting to them. They talk about wanting “distinct” and “character-driven” stories, which is exactly in my ballpark! I will keep updated on the things I have found to submit too!

After some consideration, I found that these words really do fit me as an author. I drabble in romance, and constantly explore relationships and their dynamics. I love putting characters in different situations, down to making my characters suffer. I love writing these intoxicating romances that drag the reader in and make them feel for the characters in the story. I love Taylor Swift style romance – the I-love-you to the go-away-I-hate-you, and I am glad to see these connections being made. Throughout my classes, I have heard various different opinions on deciding who my main character is, so I can not wait to see where my writing takes me.

My professor has asked me one more question – what are your plans for the future?

I pause, staring at the word document on my screen, littered with my responses. I’m frozen. This is my last week of college, for… a long time. I’m about to become a working adult, I am about to move to Orlando to do my second college program, but what is my end goal?

I know I want to be a writer, and I know I want to be involved in movies. I learned about TV writing this semester too, so I think I’ll continue working on TV scripts, and small animation intros, and hope that at some point, I end up in Disney, doing the things I love every day, for a large paycheck.
